Today I had a great ride-along with Brad Hatfield, the foreman of Roads, Parks, and a Fields in Bedford. I was able to travel his entire plow route for 3+ hours, and get to understand the daily workload of the DPW staff and see the facilities in which they are working and living.

I came away from my time at the DPW with a better understanding of how talented the staff is. Each member of the team has many roles. They may be driving the plow one minute and fixing it the next. They may be maintaining the ball field and then cleaning up the graffiti at the skate park. How often do we drive on our well maintained roads and think about their work?

We should give these folks a pat on the back and say thank you!
